    My name is Laila. I’m a 28-year-old Syrian Muslim mum to two hilarious, drama-queen little girls who own this house more than I do.


    Last year in Australia, I got a real wake-up call — Ramadan had started to feel like any other month, while back home in Muslim countries it’s celebrated in full colour and light. That’s when I decided to take matters into my own hands.

    I tried the usual things you can buy online – paper lanterns, fairy lights, cheap “Ramadan Mubarak” signs. They were cute for a night, then they just looked like party décor. Nothing changed the atmosphere.
